Looking and Feeling Beautiful for your Maternity Photography Shoot
There’s a reason I like to schedule a maternity photography shoot later in the pregnancy—preferably in the last weeks of the second or first weeks of the third trimester. By that time, any nausea you may have experienced is usually history. Your breasts and belly have rounded out, and—with any luck—you have lost the pasty, exhausted look and replaced it with a pink-cheeked, bright-eyed “glow.”
Even if your ankles are swollen, and your back feels achy, by the third trimester, it becomes visible to all that something very wonderful is occurring inside your body. This makes you more beautiful than ever, no matter how you feel when you bend over to lace your sneakers.

Feeling beautiful at your maternity photo shoot is just as important as how you look. The camera lens has a way of capturing more than just static images; it will see into your soul. Your maternity photo shoot album and prints will preserve this remarkable moment in time forever. Make sure you have prepared yourself for your pregnancy photography session by taking good care of your body, mind, and spirit throughout your pregnancy.

Pretty is as Pretty Does
No matter how well your hair is styled or how perfect your makeup is applied, if you aren’t eating right or sleeping well (or as well as can be expected, considering), your vitality can get zapped during pregnancy. Remember that you are eating for two, and your baby will take priority when it comes to doling out the proper nutrients in your body.
- Eat a healthy, low-fat diet packed with vitamins, quality fiber, and minerals to ensure BOTH of you have the energy you need to get it all done.
- Drink a minimum of 8 tall glasses of water every day.
- Avoid caffeine—it won’t really give you energy but will make you feel more tired when it wears off. Also, it’s bad for the baby.
- Put your legs up whenever you can to reduce ankle-swelling. If you sit at a desk for work, be sure to get up and walk around the office at least once per hour, and try to elevate your feet on a stool while you are sitting.
- Take a shower every day, even if you aren’t going anywhere. It will make you feel fresh and remind you that you are more than a baby-machine!
- Look in the mirror. Yup, that’s what I said. You are pregnant, and you are beautiful. Remind yourself of that every day. If you notice your hair needs fluffing while you’re there, fluff it! For you.
