Lisa Ann’s Maternity Photography Style

Hi there! I’ve been super busy this week with my maternity photography Miami shoots AND getting the word out about my exciting PPA medal news! I thought I’d share a bit about my maternity photography process with you in this week’s blog. Though each shoot is as unique as each woman that I photograph, there are some things that are sort of integral to my process.

Falling in Love

During each maternity photo shoot, I fall a little bit in love with my subjects. That may sound weird, but it’s true! I work closely with each beautiful expectant mother to tell the story of her pregnancy. I truly believe that women are more beautiful when pregnant than at any other time in their life. Taking my time is extremely important to find the most flattering positions and lighting for each mom-to-be. Together we create stunning timeless portraits that can be passed down to the baby when they are grown.

Anticipation—Planning the Session

I recommend that my clients schedule their maternity photography sessions between 28 and 35 weeks. I always suggest booking the session as far in advance as possible to be sure there’s an opening. Once the maternity photography shoot is booked, we discuss every detail of the upcoming session—mood, color palette, poses, etc. On the day of the shoot, they can just show up and I take care of everything.

My professional hair and makeup artist pampers each client throughout the session, ensuring they look and feel gorgeous. I use special lighting and offer a selection of fine silk fabrics, maternity gowns, and maternity bodysuits to create stunning portraits they can display on the walls at home or memorialize in an archival leather album.

Softness and Strength

Daianne Passarin Mauer was the perfect maternity photography subject — the CEO and Founder of Morango Brasil, a bikini company, she is a self-made swimsuit mogul who is strikingly pretty, savvy, and strong.

She visited my Miami maternity photography studio in the middle of her third trimester, and I wanted to contrast the calm anticipation in her expression with the passion and—let’s face it— the drama of the upcoming event.

If you look closely, you can see three people in this one—the self-assured CEO, soft, unmade bed-like snuggly comfort of “Mama,” and the new star of the show—Bump.

A Bridge between the Past, Present, and Future

Inside every woman—even every pregnant woman—is a little girl. In a way, having a baby allows us to reconnect with that part of ourselves, rediscover our innocence and feel the blossoming of new hopes and dreams. The future includes so much more than we ever imagined, and it’s all waiting for us, just beyond that door…
